LOVE THIS SO MUCH and I have noticed people using the POC label when talking about very specific races/ethnicities and I definitely think people should try to be aware of whether that is the most appropriate term for their conversation/point because it isn'tย something that should be anย 'easily applicable to everything' label that's applied without any thought imo. Besides which that also some people could be on the borderline of what is considered white or POC because with social grouping there are always outliers (as well as different cultures with different ideas of what different terms and concepts mean). There's nuance to stuff, I guess. Ur cool.

Also, I agree; you should work on your racism. This didn't even make me want to tweet about how offended I was.

Im just gonna start off by apologising because i know that this is gonna be a long comment.

I am brown. I currently live in London, in a predominantly 'ethnic minority' and very 'multicultural' area, and I am 17. Up until fairly recently (by this I mean within the last 6-ish months, which may sound like quite a long time ago, but its only within the last 1/34th of my life), I used to be very very embarrassed about being brown. Despite living in an area where a large proportion of people are brown, calling people 'brown' is used as an insult, as a derogatory term implying inferiority. So most of my life I have felt genuine pride when people have call me a coconut. I saw being white as a compliment, and wished I was.

Race is something that has been talked about and used to empower people for a few years now, but it took ages for any of that to even have the slightest positive effect on me, and my opinion of my brown skin. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying that it's bad that black people are being self-empowered. Like that's great, it's about fucking time. But it happens to be a matter of simply of being black and white. And to be honest, I'm gonna sound so so stupid, but for ages I felt responsible for any racism to black people that had previously occurred. Like I was one of the rich white men that had been oppressing black people for centuries. I know it's stupid, and maybe we brown folk just need to wait our turn – like I've heard people say before, but I think we need to start being more inclusive with this whole anti-racism thing. Like I kinda want to feel proud, or at least not shitty, about being brown (which, by the way, is actually quite hard when the society you live in is becoming increasingly Islamophobic. And since white people seem to be at the helm of it all, and the majority have turned out to be incredibly ignorant; to them all brown people are the same. So even though, obviously, anyone practicing Islam would take the brunt of the hostility, violence and ill-informed hatred that comes with racism, brown people on the whole are fairly likely to be discriminated against.)

So basically, I would quite like for race equality to be more inclusive, which feels like a ridiculous thing to have to ask for.

But anyway, that was a great video, and hopefully it will get more people talking about, well, my problems with the way the current dialogue on race is going. ๐Ÿ™‚

(and hopefully this actually made sense??)

As a very old and admittedly tall subscriber I will admit that it is messed up to lump all People whO Color, (aka children), under one imaginary umbrella just because many of them are sometimes cruel, selfish, smelly, diseased, loud, obnoxious, thoughtless, cranky and irrational . . . . . . . . . . . . well, I stand corrected, maybe it's not so wrong. Anyway most people, fortunately or not, grow out of their coloring book phase so don't feel dissed if height-privileged snobs try to categorize your creative efforts as the mere scribblings of a . . . . . . . . . . . uh, what??? . . . . . . . . oh ๐Ÿ™ . . . . . Um, sorry Khan I thought this was an Ageist Sketch Video. My bad.

I resonate with almost every god damn part of this ("almost" except I don't wear glasses, ya big nerd).

Seriously though YES to your commentary on the "people of color" umbrella term. There's a higher education program in New York State that provides scholarship assistance to "people of color" – as of 2016, Asian students are no longer qualified for this program despite the fact that in the United States, Southeast Asian students are the least likely students to graduate from high school. I self-identify as a woman of color so I can squeeze myself into dialogue about race, but in reality there's often a lack of solidarity between those who fit the mainstream "poc" identity and those who are also marginalized because of their cultural bg/ethnicity but aren't always considered poc.

Content: I love when you talk about which box to check POC- I hate to check white- I have native american and black along with Irish, Danish and Swiss- I pass for white but I hate the white privilege, I grew up on a farm where we grew our food, milked our cows, I was lucky to have a good education and basic health care- in the states during the Vietnam War if you served 4 years you got 4 years of college, but secondary school didn't have A levels so when I got to Uni, I was behind in math, science, and literature. I got a degree in Social Work and did well working with youth-at-risk/ I connected with these kids and could help them figure out what they wanted and helped them go after their desires SORRY for the life history, but I like your videos, where ya from mate? later
