Embarcadero: Let’s draw SF Architecture | Painting Process on iPad Pro + Pencil + Procreate
one rainy day in December, San Francisco Yo!Yo! this is Mr seagull’s digital painting class A few rain couldn’t stop hardworking ppl like us (plz subscribe!^^).
We are visiting SF Waterfront near Embarcadero This is the subject today, Let’s get started The history of the building can be traced back to the end of the 19th century. A French businessman bought the site and named it after himself. Built with nostalgia for home land, this eclectic style building flows with French romance She has survived many earthquakes and fires throughout her life. After several changes of ownership and reconstruction, we have what we see right now. Well, after all, it is eclecticism, So there is probably nothing wrong with the added-in building elements during reconstruction Since it is raining, the sharp shadows on sunny days will not appear. We need to show more soft & subtle light and shadow when painting. The absence of shadows will make the drawing slightly flat, but there are enough details to make up for it quack…quack… Downstairs is an elegant new American style restaurant. We wanted to take the opportunity to try it. Unfortunately, an appointment ahead of time is required. The San Francisco earthquake of 1906 was followed by a fire in the city. This building survived during the earthquake, but it almost got teared down to prevent the fire from spreading in the city. a pub downstairs bribed the fire station with whiskey and wine to preserve the building. That’s wisdom of life The advantage of electronic painting is that you can copy and paste as much as you want. For example, the frieze above level 1, I just need to draw it carefully one time, efficiency is paramount! mirrored！ In rainy days, there is no obvious light-shadow interface like under direct sun light. However, inside small gaps there will be less ambient light, thus shadow is formed. This way you can draw with depth. WAT?? Take a closer look, it seems that the ratio is not the same as the actual building Well, I didn’t draw it (escaped) time for lunch! Let’s go to the Yank Sing Restaurant close by because is not a workday. the restaurant expanded into the public courtyard. You can really feel the vibe of Christmas shrimp dumpling! As usual, I’ll have my imperial toxicologist test all the food before me Okay, this is the food most foreigners don’t dare to try shanghai soup dumplings! Bon appetit! Wow, amazing food! Burp~ Let’s get back to business This used to be seaman’s union and a bank at the beginning of the 20th century. In order to commemorate its rich history and unique geographical advantages, the president of the bank commissioned this complicated frieze. The imaginative decoration s include curvy plants, marine animal and nautical symbols. It also adds a lot difficulty for us to draw! some subtle touches were added to enhance the rainy atmosphere. For example, water stains on glass, ponded water w/ building reflections, mottled bricks and stones after being soaked in water, and entourage w/ umbrellas At this point, most of the drawing is completed, some details still need some refining. For example, by adding shadows and subtle changes in the hue to make the stone slate facade on level 3 more natural Alright, let’s take a break and take a look at the famous San Francisco landmark-Ferry Building on the other side of street gingerbread version of ferry building coconut tree style version of ferry building A breath of local + touristy life in San Francisco In order to better render the atmosphere, rain clouds can be seen from the reflection on windows Aww! I thought i told you i only appear as emoji avatar in this show Give me the ball i’m going home People rejected this sorrow and raised a colorful shield towards the sky. By Gu Cheng
