How to Draw a Barn Owl Flying – With Pastel Color Pencils

Hello my friends and welcome
to another Tuesday of tutorial! I am Leonardo Pereznieto
and I am very glad to see you again. Today we will draw an owl. We start by sketching the overall
shape of the body with a white pastel. In fact for this drawing
I´ll mainly use pastels. Then the shape of the head, and the wings. You may hold the pencil in this position
and do lose strokes at this stage. More or less like this. Now for more detail, I´ll go
back to a normal position like writing. You can switch the pencil back and forth depending on what you are doing. Now, the eyes. For the detail I will switch
to a black pencil, not pastel. I think the pastels are
great for larger surfaces but it’s hard to get detail with them. You can combine them well with color pencils. Ok, back to the pastel. This owl has a white face. You can do some light shading
with the purple and blend it in. You may also draw the shade first and then add the white and mixed it. The feathers of the body have a light brown tone. I love drawing with pastels, it is so smooth. The wings of this owl are very interesting with white and brown colors. And they also have some darker spots. As you have noticed I´m drawing on blue paper to give the idea of the sky. The inside of this back wing is in shadow, and the edge is white. How nice! This baby has really big wings! They get all the way over here. Let´s do each feather, but not very sharp because I don´t want them to look stiff but rather, in a smooth movement. We should do a little bit more detail to the face and for this, I go back using the color pencils. I like his expression, we are almost there. Let´s do some final touches… and it´s ready! If you enjoyed it please give it a LIKE, share it to your friends,

Amazing drawing! Love that wing detail. Only thing that bothers me is that barn owls should have all black eyes, not yellow. But that's just me! Keep it up!

It's nice but not as good as your crystal drawings they are amazing! I have birds of prey and the face isn't quite right, esp around the beak, but that is just me being so familiar with them I think.  I love your videos and look forward to tuesdays now.

Birds are so much fun to draw. I like drawing doves and parrots because they are so colorful. I also like how you used purple to make shadows instead of just black.

So, I was drawing today and I just couldn't get it the way that I wanted it. I gave up, and I was like "ahh. I'm not gonna draw ever again. I suck at this!" Your drawings are so stunning. I wonder, how did you learn to draw like this?
