How to Draw a Dolphin With Color Pencils

Hello my friends and welcome to another Tuesday of tutorial. I am Leonardo Pereznieto and
I am very glad to see you here. Today we will draw a dolphin. Let´s start by sketching the
general shape of the head. Do this with lose movements,
we can go over the line a few times and reinforce it. The water line, will be here. Let´s draw the eye and the snout… more or less like this and we keep correcting the sketch as we go, that´s the beauty of drawing. The rest of the body will be under water
and it won´t be seen very much. And now with the… [laughs]
white pastel, let´s do some bright reflections! Good! And with dark gray, light gray and black… color pencils, we may do the dolphin. It is going to be reflecting the blue of the sky, it is a nice day. Do you like dolphins? I thought so, me too! The lower part of the snout
will be a little bit darker. The upper part will be reflecting
some clouds… and the blue. I like it how it starts looking. Ok! It´s time to do the water
and the parts of the dolphin, underwater. First, let´s do a light line with
the white of the pencils. Then sketch the fins and the body of the dolphin but not with straight lines, rather break them, or blur them. Something like this, and we can go over the gray with blue. It´s good to draw some white reflections on the water. And with different tones of blue, we do the sea. Keep building up your drawing
in this way, with more white, more blues, more gray, as need it. It looks more and more rich, and more and more real. Nice! I love drawing so much! We are down to the detail, I add some more blues and grays on the dolphin. A little blue reflected over here looks so good! Nice! [laughs] Let´s give even more contrast to this area. And some more white reflections turning over here, I think will look awesome! [laughs] Very good! The final touches… and it is ready! If you loved it please give it a LIKE,
share it to your friends and subscribe to Fine Art Tips! You know where to follow me,
the links are bellow, and I will see you on Tuesday 🙂 Subtitled by Grethel Trejo

    This is amazing! Very realistic!
Just a question the colors u used are they pastel or color pencils?
And how do u blend the colors? I bought oil pastels but it's more like crayons and really hard to blend.
    Anyways great job 🙂

That is a very beautiful drawing but I have never seen that clear and vivid of a reflection of the sky on a dolphins head before because although their skin is pretty smooth it still has enough texture where some of the colors will be reflected but not as much detail. Were you working from a photograph? or some other reference material? Or have you seen a dolphin with that clear of a reflection? or was that just artistic license, which as you know, anyone who picks up a pencil, paintbrush, lump of clay or any other art material just LOVES to invoke to be as creative as they want to be  🙂 I know I slap that license down on the table all the time lol. Again, please don't take this as a criticism because it is a beautiful drawing I was just curious about your process; and plus any insight I can glean from anyone who picks up a pencil just to create is helpful and enriches my artistic experience so thank you for any insight and for your tutorials.
