How to Draw a Mermaid With Color Pencils

Hello my friends and welcome
to another Tuesday of tutorial! I am Leonardo Pereznieto and today
we will draw a mermaid with color pencils. We begin by marking the most important
points of the figure. Such as the highest part of the back,
the lowest of the legs, the head, shoulder and butt [laughs]. Using these landmarks we can then sketch,
the outline of the figure. The back, the leg, the arm, and the head,
with the hair hanging down by gravity. And then we can detail and correct
our original sketch. I will re-do the head a little
bit lower. We draw an axis for the eyes
and for the nose… and the legs and the tail, will come all the way down here it will be a long tail. We can draw the features
with the nose, the eyebrows and the eyes. It is a good practice to first do
the general shapes and then move on to the particular and the detail. Because if you do the detail first
and you made a mistake on the overall position, proportion or size… You will have to erase it
and do it all over again. With a blue color pencil
I begin doing the shadows of the body and the face. And then I work on the skin
with a pink. With a lavender color,
I´ll do a kind of grid following the shape of the legs. This will help me as a
guide to do the scales. I begin sketching them with the blue and then giving them highlights with the white, which I use also to give some lights to the body,
the darkest shadows with an indigo blue, and we
will use also some lavender for the scales. We shade the rock where
she is sitting… and we go back to the features of the face. The eyebrows, the eyes…. the hair. For this we mix in
a dark blue for the shadows …and a brown. The waterline will go about here. And I want to give an effect
in which the water surface will be seen in some areas from the top,
and in some from the bottom. Like this. And then we draw
the tail, underwater. We do the scales to the
first part. I actually wanted it a little bit thicker, generally
speaking as it is in the water, it will be a little bit darker
than the parts out of the water. With a black pencil
or what is left of it [laughs] I´ll reinforce some shadows,
by the way, I will add an additional elements to this drawing in the
following video, next Tuesday and I may refine some details. With a white pastel stick,
we pull some highlights, even under the water. Ok! That´s all for this one. If you enjoyed it, please give it
a LIKE, share it to your friends and subscribe to Fine Art-Tips. You know where to follow me,
the links are below. And I will see you
on Tuesday 🙂 Subtitled by Grethel Trejo
