How to Use Sculpture Tools : How to Use a Chisel Sculpture Tool

Hi. I’m Debbbie Huglin Vogel and I’m with
Expert Village to talk to you about using sculpture tools. This is a classical example
of sculpture. I am making a pale kumin woman and I am going to be using, actually this
is a wood chisel, and I am going to show you how to do a little bit of detail. Because
I am working with plaster which is sometimes kind of wet, it gets a little rusty, but you
just sand that back off. And what you want to do is you want to push with your hand and
control your tool like this and control the direction with your fingers so you can go
in and actually carve out the eyes. And this is what starts making it look pretty believable
because I’ll go in and actually make the eye lid. So you start getting the shadows that show
that it really is an eye. You’ll see down here on the lip that I actually kind of carved
in a bit and carved in so that I could make teeth. That was just a big lump of plaster
a little while ago. And again, around the edges here, this is how I’m leaving enough
platters to make the little rope that holds the earring in. So you can just take off a
little at a time, but it’s a real controlled move.
