Marlins’ Home Run Sculpture To Be Moved

WHO WORK HERE. 70 PEOPLE WORKED AT THE RESTAURANT. ONE FIREFIGHTER WAS TREATED FOR SMOKE INHALATION. IT APPEARS THE FIRE STARTED IN THE KITCHEN. NEW TONIGHT, THE COLORFUL AND POLARIZING HOMERUN SCULPTURE WILL SOON BE MOVED OUT. THE TEAM JUST GOT THE PERMISSION IT WAS LOOKING FOR. HANK IS LIVE AT THE BALLPARK WITH THE REACTION. HANK — Reporter: ART IS IN THE EYE OF THE BEHOLDER. DEREK JETER TOOK ONE LOOK AT THE HOMERUN STRUCTURE EARLY ON AND WANTED IT OUT. HE GOT HIS WISH. IT IS OUT OF HERE. TAKE A LOOK. YOU EITHER LOVED IT OR HATED IT. THE MARLINS PARK HOME RUN SCULPTURE. IT CAME TO LIFE WHENEVER A MIAMI MARLINS HIT A HOME RUN. COMMISSIONED BY THE FORMER OWNER OF THE MARLINS, THE $2.5 MILLION — $2.5 MILLION MECHANICAL GIZMO. I THINK IT IS A GREAT PIECE OF ART, BUT I DO NOT THINK IT IS VERY IN LINE WITH THE SPORT. Reporter: WITH THAT, THE NEW MARLINS OWNER FRONT MAN, DEREK JETER, TOTALLY AGREES. HE HAS CAMPAIGNED SINCE THEY WANT TO GIVE THAT SCULPTURE THE HEAVE [NULL]. SO, THE 73 FOOT VERACITY WILL EXIT. BUT, NOT WITHOUT COMPLICATIONS. THE ARTIST DID NOT WANT THE SCULPTURE REMOVED. DEREK JETER AND THE COMPANY WHO OWNS THE MARLINS MAY HAVE TO REIMBURSE THE COUNTY THE $2.5 MILLION COST OF THE STRUCTURE. IS CRAZY. Reporter: HOW COME? BECAUSE IT LOOKS NICE. Reporter: THAT IS PRETTY MUCH THE OPINION OF THE FANS WHO LIVED NEAR THE BALLPARK. EVERYBODY IS USED TO IT. I DON’T THINK IT IS A GOOD IDEA. I AM A FAN OF IT. I THINK IT BRINGS FANS OUT. I THINK THEY SHOULD KEEP IT. Reporter: NEW OWNERSHIP, A NEW PATH, A BREAK FROM THE PAST, AND THAT CONTROVERSY WILL DEAL STILL LINGERS. IT WAS PRETTY MUCH HIGHWAY ROBBERY, WHAT HE GOT AWAY WITH. I UNDERSTAND WANTING TO GO WITH A COMPLETELY DIFFERENT BUSINESS PATH. Reporter: IT IS NOT GOING FAR. IT WILL BE STATIONED RIGHT ABOUT HERE. IT WILL GO OFF EVERY DAY AT 3:05, HONORING OUR LOCAL ZIP CODE. IF A MARLON HITS A HOMERUN, IT WILL FUNCTION, ALSO.

Good !! That thing is gaudy, tasteless and a joke. Besides, the county could use the $2.5 million for better things, like covered bus shelters (for riders of M-D transit) with A/C in the busiest ones.

Can you imagine watching Ruth, Williams, Musial, and the boys rounding the bases after a home run with that piece of crap making racket? Don't move it. Burn it.

I was never a Jeter fan, but he did a great job turning what was the ugliest, laughing stock, largest bathroom in the world into a premiere ballbark. Well done Jeter!

It’s a shame that the govt can force anyone such as the Marlins to have something that ugly put into their property just because someone calls it art. It’s not the govts place to tell anyone they have to buy something. If the “artist” can’t sell their “art” on their own on the open market that’s too bad for them.
