Mayesh Design Star: Ceremony Arch

(uplifting music) – Hi everyone, my name is Kaylee Young, and I’m the 2018 Mayesh Design Star. Today, I’m going to be teaching you how to build an arch. It’s a series of simple steps, and you can use whatever
product that you like. Today, I’ve been using a
lot of product from Naniwa, which is this amazing Japanese grower. Today, I’m going to be using some spirea, ranunculus, butterfly ranunculus, eucalyptus, and acacia foliage. Also, I will be using roses. I started with foam,
so I have cages of foam that are soaked in water,
and I’ve zip-tied them to the arch, physically is I’ve tied them to the archway so that they’re stable and in place, and then I’ve also zip-tied them in additional places, more than one place so that the cage won’t fall or that the foam won’t fall out of the cage onto the ground. And then, I’ve also used some wire to wire some of the cages to the archway. And I feel, as soon as everything feels sturdy, that’s when I feel confident. And depending on what kind of product you’re using, I’m using
pretty light products so I feel like I can get
away with not zip-tying it maybe as much as I could if I was doing something a little bit fuller. So after zip-tie and oasis, then I’m gonna start with greenery,
and I’m just gonna start by building a shape. (uplifting music) I’m using the spirea in a way that its movement allows for
shape all the way around. It’s kind of giving me structure, and then I’m gonna fill
in with other greenery. I’m gonna add roses on top,
I’m gonna add ranunculus on top of that, and I’m just gonna layer everything and make sure to add a lot of dimension, so that when you see the archway all around, it looks beautiful from every side. (uplifting music) I had a lot of fun doing this, thanks so much for watching the video, and I hope to see you guys out on tour. (uplifting music)

How many bunches of each product did it take and how did you stop the arch from being too heavy on the front?

Hello, I'm using fake flowers/greenery for my wedding arch. Is it still easy to use the foam for plastic? Would you still even use them?

I will be adding flowers to pipe and drape. Will I need to add wood behind the cages first? Or can I just affix the cages to the pipe?

Hi Kaylee! I am wondering how you deal with the foam potentially dripping water and making a mess since they are usually soaked with water prior to installing them?

Every flower and foliage you place on the right has to be the same as the left so it won't look un even especially the top, the foliage and the flower has to curve to the round shape of the arch, I've done so many arch and entrance and experience problems and solve it, especially standing from the front you need the background or entrance of the arch to be perfect for photos and videos.

How do you carry that big arch to the event? Doesn't the flowers and leaves fall apart on the way? Or do you do at the event places??

How would go about moving something like this from an outside ceremony into an inside reception? Would you have to completely remove all the florals or just move it as is? How many people does that take?
