Hi art friends ! Steph : Hello ! Adam : Oh i was gonna say are you here ? Steph : I’m here ! Adam : today we’ve got something quite special for you guys as you might have seen already these are some very old Colored pencils just take a look – i just want to like draw attention to just how cute this one specifically just look how cute the artwork is on there! Steph : you know considering how old they are , i feel like it’s not far off my art style Adam : now these are fifty to sixty years old and as a comparison , these are japanese pencils i believe and these I’m pretty sure are english ones! Steph: oh I’m excited I really like how aesthetic they are Adam: I know right ! people don’t make anything like these anymore and and if i can just poke them out like look how pretty they are aren’t those cute ! Steph : ya they don’t look like they’ve been used . Adam : oh these ones Steph : Oh I really love the charm that these have been used. Adam : they’ve been very well loved Ya ! so when I seen them I was like ah this could make like a really cute addition to like the old art supply kind of series that we’ve been doing it it’s been a while since we’ve done one? so when I seen these i was like OH YES Do you have any idea where you want to draw with them. Steph: Yeah i’ve had an idea. Adam: you’ve – oh my god you’ve had one already ? Steph: Yeah.Oh wait a minute do we need to sharpen these pencils. Adam: Uh.. let’s find out ! I haven’t actually opened them up all the way so Both: oh hohoho! Steph: I’ts a MYSTERY FLAP ! Ohh we have to sharpen them Adam: Oh that’s fine i can do that i can sharpen them. Okay so what’s this idea Okay, so my idea is i was thinking of the color palette of the front of the box, Adam: Yeah, Steph: And it made me think of like those really old like renaissance paintings. Adam: Yeah are you gonna make a renaissance painting in this? Steph: Not quite ,but inspired by Adam: okay Steph: The color palette. And people used to do these really aesthetic bowls of fruit. Adam: Are you gonna do an aesthetic fruit bowl? Steph: Yeah I really want to try doing an aesthetic fruit bowl.Do any of you guys know what i’m going on about here ? Adam: I hope so because i’m kind of like huh?Steph: Because I once bought some like old artwork postcards, and one of them had this aesthetic old pineapple on it and it’s like- Adam: Oh my god that ugly thing ? You are gonna recreate something like that? Steph: That’s my aesthetic right now. Adam: Well, I have to respect that okay Oh no oh my god – Doesn’t he got beautiful eyes ? Steph: And beautiful teeth ! Adam: He was on a stream recently guys, and everyone said he was ugly. Steph: Yeah, for people who’ve been asking where our streams are, we stream over on twitch at the moment. Adam: Which is twitch.tv/doodledate Steph: We will put a link down below. Adam: Yeah, so be sure to check that out guys but for now I need to figure out what i’m gonna draw because i’m glad that you’re all inspired and everything but i have no idea what i’m gonna do Steph: *whispers Look at my sketchbook. Adam: Steph’s doodlez how adorable. Steph: That’s me ! Adam: *chuckling in case you forgot guys, after nearly three years that is Steph. * Groovy music * Adam: So i wanted to make a really nice aesthetic shot of me sharpening in all these pencils But there’s just like one problem Steph: mm-hmm? Adam: I think these must be made out of like oak wood or something? They are made of like the hardest wood ever. Like this pencil sharpener like going * eughhh * * eughhhh * It’s like the wood is so hard ! Now i don’t know if that’s just because like the pencils are super old or – Steph: Thats intresting because we’ve sharpened uhh 100 year old pencils before and i can’t remember those being as tough as well Adam: Oh no it loves those yeah, but these ones it’s like tough japanese engineering it just can’t handle these. It can do it but wow is it tough. Steph: And you know I think these ones down here, they look like they might have been sharpened with like a knife. Adam: Yeah those are definitely -whoever had them last definitely did those with a knife yeah. Steph: I think that’s got so much charm to it Adam: If I thought maybe I should’ve done these with a knife. Yeah! But, again there and the – the quality of them is actually uhh really nice! Steph : It’s hard to believe that these ones are about the same age – It’s like these – cause these to me look So old, and then these ones could like pass as modern-day pencils. It’s very rare that we use colored pencils it should be fun. Adam: I know right ? I cannot remember the last time we actually sat down and filmed a video where we used coloured pencils.I mean have we ever done a colored pencil video? Steph: we’ve used prismacolors, Adam: Oh yeah, yeah i remember that one. Steph: uhh maybe watercolor pencils was the last time but even then we sort of watercoloured them Adam: Yeah Okay my little style icon what are you up to – Steph: Style icon !? Adam: You look good today! I mean i mean you look good today that’s a huge – that’s a huge hole to jump in, you look good all the time! I’m just – Steph: That’s how you compliment your girlfriend guys Adam: You look good this one day of a year. You look really nice in your new glasses! Aren’t those cute guys? I really like them – Steph : Thumbs up for new glasses. Adam: Thumbs up for being able to see.Have you got your inspo now? Steph: Well, we’ve got these sharpened now, Adam: yess? Steph: Only one of them snapped so this dark green is a lot shorter than the rest. Adam: typical green Steph: But considering the age and how far they’ve probably come, Adam: l know right? Steph: They’re pretty good going Adam: you would not know, looking at them like that that they are as old as they are. That pink is such a hot pink as well.Steph: I’ve also been struggling on uhh pinterest to try and find. Like i’ve got a vision in my head and i want to try finding like a reference Adam: oh okay yeah? Steph: It’s not working for me right now what does this say Pins with aesthetic old fruit bowls. You just think it’s aesthetic for some reason but Steph: No there is an aesthetic to it. Adam: okay Beaver seems over it Steph: ah no this is just bringing up colourful bowls of fruit that’s not what i’m looking for Adam: that looks perfect! Steph: no, no, no, no no Adam: I’m drawing something that steph had an awesome idea of off camera. You, have like the little kid riding the I think it’s a goose? Steph: It looks like a big goose. Adam: And steph said to me why don’t you draw the goose riding the boy, so i was like okay. Then i’m working on this He’s trying to give him a piggyback Steph: Oh wow it’s incredible. It’s like if there was a second part to this image this would be it. Adam: That’s what you get for trying to steal my pencils boy. Steph: I want to swatch these little pencils. I’m so obsessed with these teeny tiny pencils Adam: And what are you gonna swatch them all or just your little small ones? Steph: I don’t know Adam: What do you mean you don’t know ? You – Steph: I was excited about these ones. Adam: Oh okay.Would you like a little umm what would it be called…… a swatch montage Steph: * gasp * YEAH Adam: Okay let’s do you a swatch montage hun. Steph: SWATCHTAGE Adam: yes. * aesthetic music * Okay, so these little lakeland ones, Adam: yeah? Steph: These bottom ones Adam: oh wow ! Steph: And the eyeball ones are the top ones. Adam: I have to say i’m actually really impressed with the little Lakeland ones Steph: Yeah I really like they’ve got kind of like a creamy kind of texture Adam: The red in particular that’s really really nice Steph: I’d be curious to look up to see whether they’re still make uh colored pencils Adam: It gives you a load of the information on them. Steph: Oh! Casic ! Adam: yes Steph: Feel like i might have been there before and had a mint cake Adam: A mint cake ?! Steph: I – I found I was gonna say my people but i guess it’s my fruit bowls Adam: I found my fruit bowl people! Steph: This is the aesthetic i was going for Adam: uhh hold on a second. ohhh yeah like a classical like Steph: A classic fruit bowl. But i’m gonna do it with these lakeland pencils oh i want to give you some commentary on the lakeland pencils as well. Adam: Lord. Steph: This one’s very stubby i think whoever liked it really liked it. Adam: Whoever liked it was very stubby. Steph: This one is teeny tiny Adam: oh that one was loved probably the most yeah, and that was all my observations Adam: THAT WAS IT ? AFTER SWATCHING all of these pencils That was it. Steph: Also there was a white pencil and i presume it works Adam: you tried to swatch it on white paper did you. Steph: you can kind of see it a little bit there – Adam: You mean when you’re raged and drawn all over the page And i’m so glad that we can actually get this on video because Steph needs a pencil right? And there isn’t a pencil in the room so Instead of going to get a pencil and getting off her butt and going to get one? she’s just gonna line in the black pencil that the set came with. Steph: I’m being dangerous. Adam: you’re not you’re being – you’re being SO LAZY ! Steph: Well maybe you’re being selfish because you won’t share your pencil with me i’ll share them with you Steph: Will you ? Go on then. Adam: no, no you gotta use this now people want to see ! Steph: I’ve really got to come up with a good concept Adam: A good concept? You haven’t shut up about these fruit bowls since the start of the video I wanna see…some glorious fruit bowl Steph: okay let’s You know if we don’t like how it’s looking we can’t erase so you’ll just have to live with it guys Adam: Okay. Steph: No judging my fruit bowl. Adam: The camera is trying to desperately focus on your pencil hold on. Steph: Animal Crossing draws peaches way cuter than what they actually look in real life. Adam: It just kind of looks like a – like a – a dirty butt Steph : Whoa that’s a fruit ball with fruit halves. Do people do that? Or maybe that’s just what rich people
used to do. * regal music * Adam: I’m, so rich I’m going to halve all of my fruit. That will show the peasants Steph: But then you would have to eat it so fast ! Adam: I will eat it really quickly in front of the peasants that will show them. Steph: Yeah i guess for you your colour scheme is already set for you Adam: Yeah, cause it would be kind of ironic that if you wanted to draw this character they didn’t give you the pencils needed. Like *hmph* . Do you like my goose? Do you think he’s pretty? Steph: Yeah let’s get a goose closeup Adam: When you’re thinking he is a beautiful goose. Steph: I think he looks very nice. Adam: That’s very sweet of you hun! I think this is one of the best ideas you’ve had in ages hun Steph: What the goose riding the kid ?Adam: Yeah! You ain’t gonna See this anywhere else guys Steph: What would you title this cuz you know like on deviant art you had to give everything a really artsy name Adam: Mm-hmm! Steph: Everything have to have like a title These days you can like just upload pictures on twitter and instagram and be like oh look i drew a cat but on deviant art you had to officially title your art piece Adam: Repressed rage of a teenage goose. Steph: Oh i like that Adam:And the goose is lashing out. Steph: It sounds like umm A – a children’s tv series with a goose. Adam: oh – oh -oh you think Oh i tuned in hoping to get a moose not a goose ! Okay you i’ve come for an update Steph: Okay so step one to achieving the aesthetic fruit bowl well step one was sketching out the Adam: Drawing the dang thing. Steph: There we go we’ve got an aesthetic fruit bowl. Step two appears to be every single one of these pieces has a really dark ominous background so i found some dark ominous lakeland pencils i bet this is exactly how they created these pieces back in
the day. Adam: I want to create some ominous fruit, fetch the lakeland pencils Steph: Ooo this feels like so out of my comfort zone but i’m also like and i’m living for it. I also did something really new today and i got a free audible account we’re not even sponsored by them. Adam: WOW Steph: I’m just trying new things today Adam: You are living life on the edge. Guys i hope you’re sitting down for this but i’ve got an Audible account. Steph: Look youtubers have been telling me to do for a very long time Adam: What are we gonna get next, blue apron. That’s a really popular one. Steph: I’ve never heard of that one
what is it it’s where people – it’s where blue apron! Oh my god it literally sounds like we are sponsered . Steph: I know. Adam: Oh, my god what’s that? well, Steph: Well stay tuned and if we get sponsored will tell you that and i’ll find out too. Adam: We ain’t telling you what they are – the blue apron merchants . I really like the textures that you get through uhh using pencils and stuff Steph: Yeah, it’s a nice excuse to be scribbly Adam: It’s looking so cute hun ! Steph: and yours is also coming along cute as well ! Adam: You call THAT cute. Steph: well… yeah. Adam: It’s an acquired taste Steph: Fruit Fruit ! * aesthetic music * Steph: I’ve got the background and now i want to try walking into some of the fruit details. Adam: oh okay! Steph: i’m trying to mix like quite a few of the different colors together Adam: No i really like the background it’s it is actually really similar to the uh ones that you’re looking at Steph: Yeah, i’m trying to do it so that it’s inspired by like all of them but isn’t like a copy of any of them. Adam: The concentration on this one look at this Steph: Just pretend i know what i’m doing with my colors right now Adam: I do have to admit like next to all the swatches as well it does look rather aesthetic hun. I’d say that you are pulling that off *snap* Steph: Oh no I thought I broke one then. Phew! Adam: Can you say these are quite waxy so they’re quite easy to blend ? or… Steph: They just kind of got a similar sort of feel to them as the oh what they call those ones we used before Adam: Prismacolours? Steph: The Prismacolours yeah ! Adam: mmm! Steph: Like you might even be able to tell in the swatches those ones just look a lot harder and these ones feel like a softer grade. Adam: Yeah the one that really drawn me to the lakeland ones is that red just how soft it looks. Steph: yeah ! i really want to use that for the apple. Adam: Has beaver gone for a nap ? Steph: He’s had a long day. Adam: He’s had a long day being a beaver. Okay we need to talk about just how amazing that’s looking Steph: Does it look like it was made in the renaissance times with oil paints?Adam: Yeah! Like totally ! I think that’s awesome. You’ve been so hard at work with it for so long but it’s just like that. That is pear goals right there Steph: It’s turned into like such a still life session. Adam: But it looks awesome because i do think like it’s been ages since we’ve used uh colored pencils but we’ve also made something that we probably wouldn’t have normally anyway so… And yours is beautiful i really really like it. Steph: I really wanted to like try be inspired by the color palette on the front of this. Adam: mm-hmm Steph: Also i noticed on the side it says which bit is it… here uh specially prepared for sketching, map colouring, checking etc. Adam: It’s for checking you out. back in the day you met a lady that you liked the look of, you just slide the pencils over and be like hmm how are you doing let’s paint a landscape Steph: But, why was map coloring so popular back then? Adam: Well they didn’t have TV or the internet so let’s color a map ! Steph: I suppose Adam: I tell you what, the next time the power goes out i’d totally be down for coloring a map with you. Steph: Yeah we’ll have to pull these out and do some map coloring together. Adam: Tune in for a potential future video on map coloring. Steph: OH WOW. Also I noticed on the box Adam: mmm Steph: whoever owned it previously I think they’ve drawn like two little boats in the water And there’s also like a plane crashing Adam: Everyone remembers the lakeland disaster of like 56 Steph: Oh no, but on this side that didn’t touch that side so it looks aesthetic over here Adam: That’s that’s pre-disaster there. Steph: I’m trying, to mix like lots of different colors together. Adam: No, it’s working for you Steph: Oooh i’m excited to do the apple cuz we’ve got this good apple red Adam: oh yeah okay hit me with that apple hun . Steph: I’m contemplating hanging a grape over it. Adam: Oh my goodness. Steph: Let’s do it. Adam: Just, drape that fruit over that bad boy. Steph: Yeah Do you like how scribbly i’m being Adam: I’ve that that’s honestly one of my favorite parts of this i think it looks really cool i really like the texture in the background and on the uh the pear it’s really really nice. Steph: i’ve noticed a scribbly drawing seems to be very in on Instagram at the moment so far I thought I’d have a go. Adam: Oh, are you gonna upload this one to instagram then are you. Steph: Then say hashtag fruitbowl aesthetic and then everyone will wanna draw fruit bowls. Adam: Hit me up with those likes guys. Yeah, that looks so cute i really like it. Okay guys here’s what we managed to create them with some pretty dang old pencils and I have to say steph’s oh my god that turned out beautiful hun. We hope you enjoyed the video guys! Steph: I hope you liked my aesthetic fruitbowl Adam: What’s not to like it’s beautiful oh my god Don’t forget, to like and subscribe guys, so we can see you next time for another doodle date ! Steph: Doodle date ! He’s telling you to go away. look at that. That’s what beavers do. Adam: Oh my god bye for now guys ! Steph: Bye !
