Notice the news team avoids the fact that the negligent mother is on her cellphone as her kids run around out of her view. Her fault. Absolute negligence.

I think they could've put rope around it, or put it in a glass case. But parents need to pay attention to their kids. She's sitting on the couch talking, while he's messing around with the statue. And she doesn't seem to care even after it falls over.

I believe both parties are at fault here, the gallery place for not having such an expensive item unsecure, what if the someone wanted to steal it lol??? see… and also the parents (this case the mother) for not watching her child. I would have included the father but no adult male was shown on the footage.

This isn't the child's fault. It's his parents fault. When my kids were that small, they were no more than a foot away from me at all times to prevent something like this from happening. An art museum is no place for a child anyway. His mom sat her ass right there without telling him anything! She is liable for the statue.. Not the insurance company.

Everyone saying it should have been secured, have you ever been to an art gallery? Everything on there is extremely expensive. The mother should expect this and deal with the child accordingly. This is her fault. Anyway glass is FUCKING heavy, it took the child to attempt to climb on it to knock it over. To me that's secure enough because if I was the gallery manager, I wouldnt expect little midgety shits to scale the exhibits. However I would expect them to touch said things but I'd also expect the parents to tell said child off. Negligence to the highest degree

Lmao! Only in America could this possibly be the fault of the place with art on display. It obviously has nothing to do with negligence and everything to do with not bolting the art work down… 😂😂😂 what an idiotic way to view the world! People need to learn that some places just aren't appropriate for children…

Typical parents these days, blames everyone else instead of taking responsibility for your child’s actions and holding yourself accountable. This is why we have a whole generation of kids and young adults that take absolutely no accountability for themselves and only blame others. People like this are basically raising worthless individuals that bring nothing positive to this world. I hope this place sues the hell out of the parents and they are made to pay the 100+k for the statue and another 50k for being irresponsible parents. Too bad the kid didn’t get brain damage!

Why were these children at a wedding reception to begin with. They were likely disruptive and made the event unenjoyable for others. If you take a child to a public venue, you are 100 percent responsible for watching out for the child for the child's own safety. Had the child been hurt, I bet these parents would have been the first to sue the venue.

There's a art studio by where I live there's a old horse saddle in the window covered in cans and trash with green and yellow paint splattered all over it and it has a $75,000 price on it! Fuck you!

Let's spank the mom. Of course she would probably like it. I would have been up before the statue got broke. That kid would listen or get an old fashion spanking. The great thing about spanking. Once you do it. The kids listen and all you have to do is threaten. My kids are grown up. They always say "Dad spanked". Yep. Only had to really do it a couple of times. But the threat was there.

What's the insurance for? Firstly, if the item is damaged, the insurance company needs to pay to replace it. If an adult tripped and hit it and it fell, the insurance would need to pay to repair or replace it. If an arsonist lit a fire and the building burned down, the insurance would need to pay to replace the statue. Insurance exists for this very purpose. When two cars collide and one driver was negligent, the insurance of the negligent driver covers the cost. If the driver has no insurance or cannot be found, the insurance of the non-negligent driver covers the cost.

    Breaking News:
Museum sculpture falls on young child who only wished to hug it!
Reports state the child suffered abrasions to the face and possible neck spinal injuries (which may not show for a few days).
The museum staff have frantically gone about checking all other overly priced UNSTABLE artwork, in case they too hurt another poor helpless children!
As yet NO formal apology by the museum, but some talk the mother could sue.

I can't stress this enough, if you're going to have young children in your business, then sharp or heavy blunt objects should be safely kept away from natural children playful habits and especially their natural inquisitive touching of things. I mean this is OBVIOUS for any business that caters for young children. What's wrong with business owners these days?
THANK mythical God the mother was not far away at the time, and came to the rescue of her helpless son being bludgeoned by the careless attitude of the museum's unsafe practices. Why are parents always the heroes WHERE WERE THE MUSEUM STAFF?

The comments are so unbelievably disgusting and uninformed. The child is FIVE. This was NOT a museum, this was a COMMUNITY CENTER where they have children's parties. like are you kidding me? Maybe the parents should have been watching the child better, BUT that stupid statue was out of place and should not have been there if its so bloody precious. Especially unsecured, and with no barrier around it. I don't believe they should have to pay that ridiculous amount. And its obviously not the child's fault, the child is FIVE YEARS OLD. Five, I just can't believe how cruel the comments are towards a FIVE YEAR OLD. And also that statue looks heavy, it could have killed the child. its unsecured and its a hazard. It should not have been there. I actually think they should sue the community center for having a dangerous hazard there

But….if the statue would have hurt the child then wow, what a law suit this lady would be filing. I'm sure more than 132,000.

I remember watching this on the local news. The mom was there saying how stunned she was and she turned around for only a few minutes to talk to a friend
I have children. They are grown now but they were 5 once
5 year olds are wild and cant control themself. Impulse control sdtarts coming around 8 to 9
I never let them out of my sight in public
    And this is why
Only took a few minutes for him to find an empty room snd topple a statue. Children that age can get into anything in a split second
What in the name of hell would anyone with experience in 5 year olds 5hink a community center is safe to leave a 5 year old unsupervised for any time

People ssy the center was stupid for leaving something like that in thebopen with no security or signs
They are right but they shouldnt have to
The fault still lies with the mother.
If the statue was raken, who would be blamef the thief or the center
If a woman is sexually assaulted, who is blamef
Her for not protecting herself better, or the perp

Maybe the child had more intelligence than the banal person who got a mannequin torso and a hot glue gun from dollar tree, then glued mirror shards onto it. Maybe the kid was trying to destroy that piece of crap. The town paper should hire the child as their art critic. He obviously has good taste. And a great lawsuit for being invited to an unsafe public space.

Listen from reviewing the footage from the camera, it clearly shows the mother never even attempted to keep an eye on her child before or while they were running around. However, the community center should have secured it somehow, but again, the mom is at fault because she was not aware of her children at all times. And, she never even attempted to run to the children before this incident occurred. It could have been prevented.
